Subject Line
One of the most important things is the subject line so what I’m going to do is take you through an email sequence that is getting a 100% open rate and you can see why this is happening.
The first thing in our headline is Freedom Ocean. We’re reminding people what they’ve signed up for. When they see Freedom Ocean in their inbox, they know exactly what that is so we’ll always codify the email by putting it in brackets. Then there’s a specific note about what this email is. If we would line up the emails in the inbox it would have a similar codec in the front and then it would say, ‘episode 1, episode 2, episode 3…” and so on. ‘Episode 6 + transcript is ready…’ Now the transcript is the reason why we think they’re opening the email.
Sender
Something that a lot of people forget about is the sender. The sender is crucial. In this case it’s James and Tim and people know that this podcast is James and Tim so that’s very, very, good. Some nondescript sender like support@ or info@ you’ll likely to get that filtered out.
Preview Line
The next thing that I’m sure most people forget about is the preview line. This is what shows in the inbox before people open it so make sure you give this some heavy consideration. We say ‘Welcome back to the Freedom Ocean’ and then we put a social proof line ‘The # 1 business podcast on the Australian iTunes store as this email goes out.’ That’s just reminding people that this is a successful podcast and they actually created the success because they’re the listeners. It’s the subscribers that caused the success.
Then we have the first link ‘Go to Episode 6’. We want people to click on that so we actually have a call to action, ‘Go to Episode 6’ it’s very clear, it’s blue, it’s bold and it’s underlined.
Text Wrap
And what we do is we text wrap, you don’t want to have your text running across the page. You want to keep it nice and chunked because it’s very easy to read. In fact in SuperFastResults we have a tool called the text wrapper that allows you to text wrap your characters to whatever you specify. It’s very, very, easy to use this.
